Bio:
Maryam Ashkan, MA, RP, is a registered psychotherapist and trauma therapist in private practice in Toronto, Canada. She provides Trauma-based Therapy to individuals (12+) struggling with trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD, attachment and developmental trauma, dissociative disorders and Addictive Behaviours. Maryam also works one-to-one and with groups to facilitate self-development and personal development from a transpersonal perspective.
For over 20 years, Maryam has worked as an advocate, educator, and therapist in various clinical settings, including private practices, community mental health centers, and hospitals. She has extensive experience working with individuals, families, and children. She also has experience working with first responders and those in high-trauma sectors.
Maryam values the therapeutic relationship and provides an integrative and client-centred approach tailored to each client's unique needs and goals, including parts work and ego-state modalities, Brainspotting, EMDR Therapy, Sensorimotor Art therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, and various theories/treatments of dissociation to foster self-awareness, facilitate personal growth, and empower individuals to overcome obstacles.
Drawing upon advanced training and experience, Maryam believes that the power to transform lies within each of us, and we must expand beyond the limits of traditional psychotherapy and integrate neuroscience to stimulate the self-healing properties within.
Maryam is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a Registered Cognitive Behavioral Therapist with The Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT). She is a certified Brainspotting and EMDR practitioner, a Certified SSP and Neuroptimal Neurofeedback provider. In addition, Maryam is a member of The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals, a member of EMDR International Association, and a member of Brainspotting Canada Association.
