Firefighters, police officers, corrections personnel, and other emergency service personnel often encounter severe stress, human tragedy and other crises that threaten their lives. Working in such a demanding environment can cause disorders of extreme stress.
First responders endure significant levels of toxic stress due to their high level of exposure to hazardous situations and exposure to traumatic events found within their professional roles. Exposure to such a stressful environment can lead to a range of psychological, emotional, relational, and performance-based symptoms and syndromes that can derail a person's career and life.
